In this post, I’m sharing my favorite surfer nursery decor ideas, including affordable DIY projects and fun surfer-inspired finds to bring your dream nursery to life.
Gallery Surfer Ocean Themed Photos
A gallery wall is a budget-friendly and fun way to introduce the surfer vibe into your nursery. I love how versatile this decor idea is—you can mix and match surf photography, vintage wave prints, and coastal landscapes in the colors of your nursery.
➡️ Pro Tip: Look for printable surfer wall art on Etsy to save money and customize the size to fit your space. Choose soft blues, sandy neutrals, or muted green tones to keep the surfer theme going.
Add Retro Surfer Theme Wall Sticker, Ocean Wall Decals
Wall decals are such an easy and impactful way to create a statement wall without the commitment of paint or wallpaper. Choose retro-inspired surfer stickers, palm tree silhouettes, ocean waves, or sun motifs to instantly set the theme.
I love the idea of creating an accent wall behind the crib with these decals. It adds visual interest and makes for the perfect photo backdrop!
✅ Why you’ll love it: Decals are removable and renter-friendly, making them a perfect choice for nursery decor.

Add a Wooden Shaka Wall Sign
Nothing says “surfer nursery” more than a wooden shaka sign! The classic “hang loose” hand gesture. This piece is a must-have for adding surfer vibes.
You can hang it on your gallery wall or display it on a shelf as a playful accent.
DIY Tip: If you’re feeling crafty, you could even paint or stain the shaka sign yourself to match your nursery’s color scheme.
Hang a Surfer boy mobile nursery decor
How adorable is a surfer or beach-inspired mobile hanging above the crib? It’s the perfect way to add a playful, touch to your little one’s sleep space.
Look for mobiles featuring mini surfboards, palm trees, or sea creatures for a coastal vibe. You can also find custom options on Etsy to match your nursery colors or theme!
A mobile not only adds visual interest but also keeps your baby entertained during diaper changes or while they drift off to sleep!

DIY a Custom Surfboard with Babies Name
For a personalized and creative touch, DIY a mini wooden surfboard with your baby’s name on it! It makes for an adorable wall accent, shelf decor, or even a prop for milestone photos.
How I Did It:
- Grab a piece of wood from Home Depot or Lowe’s.
- Use your Cricut to create a surfboard-shaped stencil.
- Trace the shape onto the wood and have it cut out (my husband used a saw).
- Paint it with coastal colors and stripes to give it that surfer look.
- Add wooden letters or vinyl decals with your baby’s name.
If DIY isn’t your thing, you can purchase a custom surfboard from Etsy. Bonus hack: You can even use a wooden cutting board shaped like a surfboard as a creative base!

Use Beachy Inspired Wallpaper
Another cute and creative way to tie in your surfer themed nursery for a boy is to use wallpaper! There’s so many fun options out there but I love the waves on this wallpaper below! It makes for a cute accent wall!
Peel-and-stick wallpaper is easy to apply and removable, making it perfect for renters or indecisive decorators.
